Meme

Awalnya cuma untuk lucu-lucuan, tapi siapa sangka meme yang tepat sasaran efektif digunakan sebagai kritik sosial, bahkan kampanye lalu lintas.


Yang aktif di media sosial tentu tidak asing dengan meme. Anda tentu masih ingat lini masa di Twitter dengan tagar #savehajilulung yang heboh. Politikus dan pengusaha ini menjadi bahan bulan-bulanan di dunia maya. Saat pemilihan presiden berlangsung pun terjadi perang meme di antara kubu pendukung Jokowi dan Prabowo.

Adapun selebritas yang paling sering dijadikan bahan meme, siapa lagi kalau bukan Syahrini. Maka muncullah meme Syahrini, mulai yang mengenakan mukena yang dimirip-miripkan dengan piramida, kue lupis, bahkan burung merak, hingga yang sedang telentang di atas tumpukan sampah. 

Berkembangnya meme sudah menjadi new media. Sebab, semua orang bisa berpartisipasi, semua orang bisa bikin, dan semua orang bisa tertawa bersama. Yup, diperlukan wawasan luas dan kepekaan sosial yang tinggi untuk menciptakan meme yang lucu.


Meme Comic Indonesia
Di Jakarta, ada komunitas yang menyatukan pencinta, pembuat, dan pengelola meme. Komunitas tersebut bernama Meme Comic Indonesia (MCI), yang disebut-sebut sebagai komunitas meme terbesar di Indonesia.

Pengelolaan komunitas yang berada di bawah payung Pensil Ad—sebuah agensi digital—ini terbilang serius. Bagaimana tidak, selain memiliki kantor dan administrator atau admin full time, MCI punya brand ambassador, yaitu Christian Adi Jaya.

Pria ganteng berbadan tegap yang masih berstatus mahasiswa itu adalah model, penyanyi, sekaligus salah satu admin Facebook Fan Page MCI, yang kini sudah di-like 1,9 juta. Lebih dari itu, MCI sudah menerbitkan buku berjudul If You Know What Happened in MCI: Meme Comic Indonesia, The Biggest Meme Community in Indonesia.

“Awalnya kami iseng-iseng saja karena suka humor dan memang bekerja di media sosial. Tapi lama-lama dalam meme sepertinya ada sesuatu. Kita bisa mengubah mindset orang lewat humor,” jelas Andre Prodjo, founder MCI.

Berkembangnya meme hingga seperti sekarang, dianggap Andre, yang juga menjabat Managing Director Pensil Ad, sebagai suatu new media. Sebab, semua orang bisa berpartisipasi, semua orang bisa bikin, dan semua orang bisa tertawa bersama.


Evolusi Budaya
Fenomena mencuatnya meme—dibaca “mim”—ditanggapi pula oleh sosiolog dari Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik Universitas Indonesia, Y. Wasi Gede Puraka, MSi. Kata meme awalnya digunakan sebagai istilah dalam ilmu evolusi genetika.

Meme adalah penyingkatan atau pemendekan dari mimeme, yang dalam pengertian Yunani kuno, dipahami sebagai “hal ditiru” atau imitated thing. Pemendekan itu meniru teknik yang dilakukan dalam serangkaian struktur gen yang panjang.

Dalam ilmu evolusi genetika, istilah meme digunakan oleh ahli biologi evolusi Inggris, Richard Dawkins, dalam The Selfish Gene. Sementara dalam bidang kebudayaan, meme dipinjam sebagai konsep, gagasan, atau ide untuk menjelaskan penyebaran atau transmisi dan mutasi suatu gejala kebudayaan yang didasarkan pada prinsip evolusi. Francis P. Heylighen, ahli sibernetika Belgia, menyatakan, dalam suatu evolusi budaya, meme adalah pola informasi yang terdapat dalam memori individu, yang kemudian mampu disalin ke memori individu lain. “Sebuah meme berikut informasi memori tertentu bisa disalin sepenuhnya menjadi meme dan informasi lainnya sesuai dengan tujuan atau kepentingan si penyalin,” katanya.

Penggunaan karakter ikonik yang disandingkan dengan kutipan hendak menguatkan pesan informasi yang disampaikan oleh pembuat meme untuk disebarluaskan atau ditransmisikan kepada khalayak. Penyebarluasan atau transmisi itu bisa terjadi sangat cepat dari orang ke orang, antara lain, karena ditunjang oleh teknologi pengolahan informasi.

“Fungsi meme dalam konteks masyarakat perkotaan. Meme menjadi cerminan bagaimana network society berbasis teknologi komunikasi dan informasi virtual terbentuk,” jelas Wasi.

Conrad Bali Showcases Wayang Shadow Puppet Masters

Second installment of Living Lobby Art Exhibition Series pays tribute to Indonesia's ancient artistry


Award-winning luxury beachfront resort, Conrad Bali, has launched the second edition of its Living Lobby Art Exhibition Masters Series 2015 that showcases the ancient shadow puppet art of wayang with an exhibition and workshop by two master puppeteers.

The wayang series marks the second of four quarterly exhibitions and workshops this year at Conrad Bali highlighting masterful works that represent the cornerstones of Indonesia art and culture.

Wayang Exhibition
From now until June 30, I Ketut Sudiana, also known as Sudiana, one of Indonesia's most respected shadow puppet masters and performers, will display his artworks in the resort's East Lobby Lounge. The exhibition which is open to the public, features some of Sudiana’s best puppet masterpieces.

Born into a family of puppet makers, Sudiana studied puppet art under the guidance of his legendary father, I Wayan Nartha, since he was 13 and is credited for creating a new wayang art form called the 'Golek Gede', a three-dimensional puppet.


Wayang Workshop
On Friday May 22, I Wayan Wija, a Balinese master puppeteer and puppet maker, will conduct a workshop at his home near Ubud, Bali. Combining different materials from calfskin to glass, Wija will provide guests with behind-the-scenes insights into the ancient art.

Wija, studied wayang under his father at a young age of 11, performing and making shadow puppets for 50 years.

The workshop costs for US$50++ per person including refreshment and a day trip to Ubud.

Coffee Break


COFFEE isn’t just warm and energizing, it may also be extremely good for you. In recent years and decades, scientists have studied the effects of coffee on various aspects of health and their results have been nothing short of amazing.

Kopi di Indonesia sudah menjadi minuman sehari-hari, bahkan di kota-kota besar di seluruh dunia menjadi bagian dari gaya hidup kaum urban. Beruntunglah jika Anda termasuk coffee addict. Penelitian terbaru menunjukkan bahwa pria yang mengkonsumsi kafein setiap hari, 42 persen lebih kecil berkemungkinan menderita impotensi. 

Khasiat kafein bahkan disinyalir dapat menjadi Viagra alami. Kafein juga ditengarai dapat membantu orang yang mengalami kelebihan berat badan atau memiliki tekanan darah tinggi. Selain itu, kafein membantu mengendurkan pembuluh darah di penis sehingga meningkatkan aliran darah. Pria yang meminum satu atau dua cangkir kopi per hari memiliki kemungkinan lebih kecil menderita disfungsi ereksi. 

Berdasarkan data National Health Service di London, Inggris, secangkir kopi instan mengandung sekitar 100 mg kafein, sedangkan secangkir kopi tubruk mengandung sekitar 140 mg kafein. Adapun secangkir teh mengandung 75 mg dan sekaleng kola mengandung 40 mg kafein. 

Para peneliti menemukan pria yang sehari-hari meminum 85-170 mg kafein, 42 persen lebih kecil berkemungkinan menderita impotensi dibanding yang tidak meminumnya. Yang meminum 171-303 mg kafein memiliki kemungkinan 39 persen lebih kecil. 

Dulu kafein banyak disalahkan karena dipercaya sebagai penyebab obesitas, kelebihan berat badan, dan peningkatan tekanan darah. Ketiga kondisi ini diketahui merupakan faktor pemicu terjadinya disfungsi ereksi. 

Kini para ilmuwan dari University of Texas menemukan kafein dapat memicu serangkaian efek yang membantu mengendurkan pembuluh darah di penis sehingga meningkatkan aliran darah. Mereka mempelajari data dari hampir 4.000 orang, dan menggunakan catatan diet 24 jam serta menilai jumlah kopi, teh, minuman bersoda, dan minuman pembangkit tenaga yang rata-rata dikonsumsi per hari.

Dr David Lopez, penulis utama dalam studi tersebut, mengatakan, "Meskipun kami melihat penurunan prevalensi disfungsi ereksi pada orang yang mengalami obesitas, kelebihan berat badan, dan hipertensi, tidak demikian yang terjadi pada penderita diabetes.” Hal itu dianggap tidak mengejutkan karena diabetes merupakan faktor terkuat penyebab terjadinya disfungsi ereksi.

Kopi telah lama dikaitkan dengan penurunan risiko serangan jantung dan terbukti dapat melindungi seseorang dari ancaman terkena demensia, diabetes tipe 2, dan kanker kulit. Namun efek tersebut didapat dari kopi yang diproses secara alami, bukan kopi dalam kemasan. Kopi juga mengandung sejumlah antioksidan dan bahan kimia alami yang bersifat menyehatkan tubuh.

Mexican Food Fiesta

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Unveils Ambitious Expansion Plans in Thailand and Southeast Asia

Swiss hospitality firm to add seven hotels to its Asia portfolio over the next three years for a total of 15 hotels and resorts in the region

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts today announced an extensive growth programme in Thailand and across Asia at the Asia Pacific Hotel Investment Conference 2015 held in Bangkok.

The Swiss group will open seven hotels and resorts in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, China and Vietnam over the next three years, with an additional 10 projects under negotiation.

"We are delighted today to unveil our expansion plans in Thailand and throughout the region," said Andreas Mattmüller, Chief Operating Officer of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, Middle East and Asia.

"They are true to our vision and our purpose which is to grow the brand and maintain our distinct positioning of delivering high quality and authentic hospitality experiences to guests with genuine care and warm service," she added.

The focus of the development will be primarily on Southeast Asia and add to a current portfolio of eight hotels in operation in Asia, four of which are in Thailand, the hospitality management company's biggest market in the region.

The Mövenpick Hotel Sukhumvit 15 Bangkok opened most recently in a prime downtown location and will be followed in the first quarter of next year by the 264-room Mövenpick Siam Hotel Pattaya positioned for family and meetings business on Jomtien Beach.

The Team
The new hotels in key tourism and business destinations in Thailand add to three Mövenpick hotels in Phuket and Koh Samui for a total of five hotels in Thailand by 2017. Further hotels to open across the region are:

X dan ACE dari Adidas: Chaos atau Control

Untuk pertama kalinya, kedua tipe pemain yang berbeda ini mempunyai sepatu tersendiri. Kategori sepatu Adidas yang lama tidak lagi dilanjutkan. Tidak ada lagi F50, tidak ada lagi Predator, tidak ada lagi 11pro dan tidak ada lagi Nitrocharge. Hanya ada chaos dan control. Hanya ada X dan ACE.

After the adzan, we would break the fast with the refreshing es campur and then go for maghrib prayer. It was a very sacred moment for me.”
