Wine, Women and Song

AMID Jakarta’s heavy traffic, Portobello is an oasis of calm. Here’s a fine wine venue with a cigar divan, complemented by a great variety of foods.

Portobello provides comfort through light jazz or 80s tunes. Live music is by Rio Silaen & friends D’Chorus band, or groove on the dance floor with the resident DJ who is present almost every day.

It doesn’t matter if you want to relax on a sofa or face the bartender, tatami-style. This is an excellent place to pass an evening while enjoying the house menu. With an atmosphere this intimate, it’s certainly worthwhile bringing close friends.

The predominant colours are earthy reds and browns, which provide a calming ambience that is complemented by contemporary-modern interior design.

Good-quality wines from both the New and Old World are available, as well as a selection of frozen vodkas, spirits, martinis and cocktails. Wine connoisseurs are not the only ones pampered here; cigar fans are too, as Portobello has dedicated a corner to them.

A selection of Cuban and Dominican cigars are available, kept in humidors to preserve both frangrance and flavour.

How about the food? The menu is quite wide-ranging, allowing visitors to sample treats from both East and West. Japanese food features strongly since a siginficant proportion of guests are expatriates from that country.
