Stretch Your Dollar Further in Dubai

Transportation and accommodation tips for you to save more budget on your upcoming Dubai trip

DESPITE being famous for its luxury and opulent propositions, there is plenty more to see and do in Dubai city that won’t break the bank. We present below some transportation and accommodation recommendations to help you stretch your dollar further when visiting Dubai.
TRANSPORT TIPS
Dubai’s local public transport is operated by the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) and consists of the Dubai metro, buses, water buses and abras (water taxis). A worthwhile RTA package called ‘One Day in Dubai’ allows for travel on all public transport covering the main city sights.
Abra

Abras
Abras are motorised traditional wooden boats linking the historic areas of Dubai across the Creek. The fare of Dh1 or Rp. 3,500 one-way is payable directly to the driver, with two routes available:
  • Bur Dubai Abra Station to Deira Old Souq Abra Station; operates daily between 5am and midnight.
  • Dubai Old Souq Abra Station to Al-Sabkha Abra Station; operates around the clock.
Dubai Metro

Dubai Metro
Opened to the public in 2009, the Dubai Metro is the one of the cheapest and most convenient ways of getting around Dubai. Running for almost 75km across key sites in Dubai, the extensive metro features the Red Line, running for 52.1km parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road from near Dubai International Airport to Jebel Ali, and the Green Line, running for 22.5km and linking Dubai Airport Free Zone with Dubai Healthcare City. Trains arrive every 2 to 5 minutes, from 6am to 11pm Saturday to Thursday, and 1pm to midnight on Fridays. Cabs and feeder buses are available from most stations to take you to your final destination. Fares vary from AED 2 or IDR 7,000 for stops within a single zone to AED 6.50 atau IDR 25,000 for stops within five zones.
Bike Rental

Bike Rental
Offering added convenience, rental bikes can be picked up across key areas in Dubai, including Downtown Dubai and Dubai Marina, for up to 24 hours. Riders can easily sign up via the NextBike app available on iPhone and Android. One person can rent up to four bikes, with prices from AED 15 or 55,000 for 30 minutes up to AED 80 or IDR 300,000 for 24 hours per bike.
