Meliá Adds its Eleventh Hotel in Indonesia

Iwan Tirta Private Collection @ Living Lobby Art Exhibition Series 2015

Conrad Bali’s acclaimed Living Lobby Art Exhibition series has reached new heights with the partnership of legendary batik designer and producer Iwan Tirta Private Collection.  The exhibit marks the first of four quarterly exhibitions and workshops this year highlighting masterful works that represent the cornerstones of Indonesia art and culture.

From now until March 31, 2015, Iwan Tirta’s Boketan collection will be showcased in the East Lobby Lounge of the resort.  This latest concept features original works that can take up to six months to create and is available for sale to guests and visitors.

Further, Era Soekamto, creative director of Iwan Tirta Private Collection will conduct a two-day batik making workshop from March 19 to 22, 2015. Conrad Bali is offering a package for a minimum of three nights, with accommodation in the Deluxe Garden room starting at USD265++ per night and including the workshop, return airport transfers and breakfast. The workshop dates coincide with March 21st which marks the Balinese Hindu holy day of Nyepi, known as the Day of Silence on which no traffic is allowed; cars will be off the streets and people will have to stay at home.

Conrad Bali general manager Jean-Sébastien Kling said: “We feel deeply honoured to partner with the distinguished brand of Iwan Tirta Private Collection. This exhibition presents an opportunity for guests and local residents to experience the extraordinary indigenous art of Indonesia and discover the heritage and philosophies that underpin Indonesian culture, customs and beliefs.”

Nursjirwan Tirtaamidjaja, or Iwan Tirta as he is known, is considered the father of Indonesian batik, creating over 10,000 original hand drawn pieces of batik art before his passing in 2010.  Tirta was born in Blora. He discovered motifs dated back from between the 6th and 18th centuries and brought new life to a batik originally worn and collected only by the elite members of the Indonesian royal court.

Above all, his work is rooted in spirituality, where control, etiquette and harmony conspire to establish the foundation of belief for the Javanese – where conflicts are avoided and a transcendental balance exists. Even the action of ‘canting’ or drawing patterns with wax requires calmness, serenity and a meditative state of mind in order to create a perfect work.

Such is the level of artistic creativity involved in the batik that in October 2009 UNESCO designated Indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.   Iwan Tirta, who studied at the London School of Economics and Yale Law School, received a grant from The John D. Rockerfeller III Fund and was able to pursue his love of batik, creating the eponymous brand and bringing it to the attention of the global fashion market.

The future to develop the art however lays in the hands of Mahakarya Warisan Nusantara Group CEO Johannes Bima, who manages the Iwan Tirta Private Collection brand and was instrumental in the collaboration with Conrad Bali, which sees the expansion of the brand outside of Jakarta of the first time since the passing of the great man.

“We are very excited to be partnering with Conrad Bali as this represents the first step outside of Jakarta and the start of a new beginning for Iwan Tirta Private Collection as we embark on a journey to honour his legacy and create new relevance for the brand outside of Jakarta and indeed outside of Indonesia,” said Johannes Bima, CEO of Mahakarya Warisan Nusantara Group.

Digital Publishing

Evolusi industri penerbitan tengah berlangsung di dunia, dan digitalisasi media memang tak terelakkan. Beberapa penerbit sudah beralih ke digital, beberapa yang lain mungkin baru memulainya. Di Indonesia nyaris semua majalah cetak mempunyai versi digitalnya, meski masih banyak yang belum interaktif, sesuai dengan platform-nya.

Memang, tidak semua penerbit bisa segera move on, pindah dari cetak ke digital. Apalagi tidak ada jaminan bahwa di platform yang baru mampu memboyong serta para pengiklan. Ini memang problem besar di kalangan penerbit yang sudah merasa nyaman dengan platform lama yang bertaburan iklan. Padahal, kenyamanan tersebut adalah semu, yang tidak berdaya melawan perubahan zaman.

Tidak hanya itu, pergeseran akibat teknologi mobile lebih cepat dari yang diperkirakan. Bahkan ponsel, tablet, mobile application, dan mobile lifestyle, telah diterima menjadi norma baru generasi kiwari. Teknologi digital terus berkembang dan berdampak bagi kehidupan manusia. Salah satunya pada industri penerbitan digital. Media-media informasi yang pada era sebelumnya didominasi oleh platform cetak, sekarang mulai beralih di digital.

Yup, surat kabar dan majalah cetak mempunyai pembaca setia, sedangkan televisi adalah media tradisional yang masih memiliki audiens yang sangat besar, apalagi di Indonesia. Tapi yang tidak boleh dilupakan, semua publisher harus mempunyai persiapan untuk menuju ke era digital, kalau tidak ingin hanya menjadi kenangan kelak.

Advertising and Adobe DPS: A Win for Publishers

The evolution of the publishing industry, due in large part to the rapid rise of consumer interest in digital, has left publishers questioning how to focus efforts on digital publishing without losing their valued advertisers and sponsors. It’s a common concern we hear among publishers – the fear of advertising dollars being lost with a move to digital. But current research shows this digital shift can actually help publishers exceed their advertising goals.

The Power of Analytics
The leading enterprise digital publishing solution, Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (Adobe DPS), leads the pack for several reasons, but a main differentiating factor is the built-in analytics that comes with an Adobe DPS enterprise license – a huge win for publishers and advertisers.

In a webinar hosted by Adobe, GIE Media’s success with interactive ads in Adobe DPS publications was highlighted. GIE Media has seen their interactive ads deliver a 4x longer viewing time and a 6x higher click through rate to an advertisers website compared to static ads.

Advertisers have several options to include interactive features in their advertisements. A static ad can be upgraded by:
  • Linking out to a website or product page
  • Embedding a video to showcase a new service or testimonial
  • Prompting users to engage with other types of interactive content like 360-degree views and slideshows

A critical step for publishers moving into the digital space is to ensure they educate their advertisers about what this shift means and the new opportunity it presents them. Menu Baru 2015 Pastahouse AWkitchen, Jakarta

Awal tahun 2015 beberapa menu baru tersedia di Pastahouse AWkitchen. Ada tujuh menu makanan dan tiga menu cocktail baru di daftar menu di resto yang terletak di Plaza Senayan Jakarta ini, yakni Salmon & vegetable terrine, Arranchini genovese, Tarabagani croquette, Blue mussels in white wine sauce, dan Calamari fritti. Selain itu, ada Veal loin bresaola with grain mustard cream sauce dan Veal loin with red wine sauce.

Salmon & vegetable terrine
Salmon & vegetable terrine. Bagi Anda yang gemar dengan aroma ikan yang kuat, cobalah menu ini. Sesuai namanya, bahan utama hidangan ini adalah sepotong salmon yang hadir dalam bentuk seiris puding, karena dibungkus oleh gelatin. Namun tak hanya salmon yang dijadikan isian puding, sebab ada sayuran lainnya, diantaranya wortel, timun, dan okra. Semuanya terlihat jelas, karena gelatin dibiarkan tanpa warna. Cantik sekali penampilannya. Rasa segar salmonnya amat terasa, begitu pula sayurannya.

Arranchini genovese
Arranchini genovese. Inilah rice ball-nya Italia. Sajian ini dibuat dari perpaduan nasi, beberapa keju, dan telur, lalu digoreng. Ada dua buah rice ball seporsinya. Untuk menyantap menu ini, tersedia saus genovese (classic basil pesto) yang membuat cita rasanya kian lezat.

Tarabagani croquette
Tarabagani croquette. Bila Anda menyukai menu yang juga digoreng, cobalah yang ini. Tarabani adalah red king crab yang berasal dari Bering Sea dan Norton Sound, Alaska. Jadi, isi croquette ini adalah kepiting. Makanya tak perlu diragukan lagi cita rasanya. Saus dan jagung manis yang ditata di bawah Tarabagani croquette serta telur ikan yang ditabur di atasnya menambah sedap sajian ini.

Blue mussels
Blue mussels. Selanjutnya adalah menu bernama Blue mussels in white wine sauce. Disajikan dalam mangkok putih berukuran sedang, penampilan blue musselsnya langsung terlihat, karena diletakkan di bagian atas. Sementara di bawah kerang ini bak air laut, yang merupakan 'rumah' dari kerang-kerang ini. Tapi air lautnya berwarna kuning, karena dibuat dari cream dan white wine yang membuat sajian ini wajib untuk dicoba.

Calamari fritti
Calamari fritti. Sementara bagi yang suka cumi, tidak diragukan lagi inilah menunya. Namun, calamari ala Pastahouse AWkitchen amat berbeda. Appetizer ini berwarna hitam! Jadi, tepung yang membalur cuminya dicampur dengan tinta, sehingga menjadi hitam. Inovasi yang cukup mengejutkan, apalagi rasa gurihnya tak hilang dan daging cuminya tetap empuk saat digigit.

Veal loin. Restoran yang berada di Plaza Senayan, Jakarta ini juga tidak melupakan penyuka sajian dengan bahan utama daging. Khusus mulai bulan ini ada Veal loin bresaola with grain cream mustard dan Veal loin with red wine sauce. Daging veal-nya diimpor dari Australia dan setiap porsinya memakai 180 gram daging! Veal dihidangkan bersama mashed potatoes dan sayur-sayuran. Perbedaan utama dari kedua menu ini adalah pada sausnya. Yang satu memakai red wine dan lainnya memakai white wine. Keempukan veal-nya membuat sajian ini patut untuk dicicipi.

Yukitobi. Dari penampilannya, cocktail ini sudah berbeda. Ada sebongkah bola es yang menarik perhatian dan membuat presentasi cocktail ini unik. Di Jepang, yukitobi artinya permainan salju. Kini bola salju itu disajikan bersama gin, peach liqueur, dan lychee syrup. Ada dua cara meminumnya, pertama langsung diseruput. Cara kedua adalah dengan membuat lubang di bola es dan biarkan sirup lecinya menyatu dengan campuran bahan lainnya.

Meet & greet. Minuman kedua yang ditawarkan adalah Meet & greet. Cocktail ini disajikan di atas tray bersama beberapa potongan canape. Cara meminumnya adalah teguk sedikit, lalu makanlah canape-nya. Selagi mengunyah (jangan dihabiskan), teruskan meneguk minumannya lagi. Akan terasa bedanya dibandingkan dengan langsung menyeruput habis minuman yang diracik dari campuran Jim Beam, oregano, lime, dan simple syrup ini tanpa canape.

Elder berry
Elder berry. Inilah cocktail yang dibuat dari vodka, grande mix, cranberry juice, campari, elder flower, basil, dan cinnamon powder. Rasa cocktail cukup kuat dan langsung membuat peminumnya 'terkejut'. Karena rasanya yang cukup strong pula, siapa pun yang meminumnya seolah dibawa bertualang di lautan rasa.

Adanya menu baru ini tidak akan mengurangi menu yang sudah ada sebelumnya. Jadi, jika ingin memesan Yellowtail carpaccio in vegetables chilli sauce, Pizza with lotus, genovese, and shrimp, atau Pizza cacciatora silakan. Demikian pula dengan menu-menu lainnya, yaitu Risotto in ikasumi sauce, Spaghettini in garlic oil with spicy cod roe and Japanese mushrooms atau Spaghettini vongole bianco, termasuk Banana and strawberry tiramisu dan Chocolate profiteroke.
