Two of Indonesia’s leading entertainment brands, Potato Head and Ismaya Live, collaborate again for the third annual Sunny Side Up Tropical Festival, with the event now taking place over two days at the Potato Head Beach Club in Seminyak, Bali.  

PTT Family, the acclaimed hospitality and entertainment group behind the iconic Potato Head Beach Club in Bali, and Indonesia’s leading live music promoter Ismaya Live are proud to announce the third edition of the Sunny Side Up Tropical Festival. In addition to returning with a stellar line-up, this year’s event will now take place over two days – a first for the festival.  

This year’s Sunny Side Up will offer a combination of world-class live acts and DJs. Artists set to appear at time of writing include Disclosure (DJ), Mark Ronson (DJ), Ta-Ku (live), Breakbot, Sam Feldt, George Maple, Hermitude, and many others.

DISCLOSURE

Disclosure’s extraordinary debut album “Settle” (2013) put this English duo, brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence, at the forefront of a new wave of electronic music. “Settle” topped charts, won numerous accolades and ushered in a new refreshing type of dance music.

The band followed it up with the impressive “Caracal” (2015), which earned Disclosure its second Grammy nomination. MARK RONSON

Superstar producer and DJ Mark Ronson has earned both praise and popular success for his throwback, soul and funk influenced work with such diverse artists as Ghostface Killah, Amy Winehouse and Bruno Mars. The stepson of Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones, Ronson spent the first eight years of his life growing up in England. Having played guitar and drums from an early age, it wasn’t until moving to New York City with his mother that he discovered DJ culture.

At age 16, and already a fan of popular hip-hop artists such as Run-D.M.C. and the Beastie Boys, Ronson began listening to the various hip-hop mixtapes. Inspired, Ronson confiscated his father’s record collection and tried his hand at mixing. It was the first step in a career highlighted by work on Winehouse’s Grammy-winning album, as well as his own global smash hit “Uptown Funk”.

TA-KU

Ta-Ku is a modern day renaissance man. Rising to prominence as one of Australia’s most indemand beatmakers, the Perth-based artist (real name Regan Matthews) has found himself curator of a rapidly expanding creative empire. While selling health insurance full-time, the musician was creating beats in his free time that would become so popular that Ta-Ku became his only job.

Ta-Ku’s credits now include high-profile remixes for BANKS, Childish Gambino and Justin Timberlake, as well as a clutch of co-written pieces, production efforts and countless self-releases.

BREAKBOT

Breakbot is the French duo of producer Thibaut Berland and vocalist Irfane. Their productions combine funk, disco and house with a French touch. Signed to the renowned Ed Banger record label in 2010, Breakbot’s first release was the huge hit “Baby I’m Yours”.

The duo is also known for its remix work, having collaborated with the likes of Birdy Nam Nam, Digitalism and Busy P amongst others. Breakbot’s album “Still Waters” was released earlier this year to criticalacclaim and sees Breakbot continue their dance floor dominance.

GEORGE MAPLE

BLONDE

Blonde is the English duo of Jacob Manson and Adam Englefield. Their rise to the top has been nothing short of meteoric from their first collaboration in 2014, a track entitled “Talk To You”. Amazingly they managed to produce this track without having ever met in person, and it was the success of this long-distance collaboration that led Manson back to his hometown of Bristol to meet Englefield. Then the real magic began.  

Their production schedule soon filled up with new creations influenced by a wide range of genres, including House, R’n’B and Garage. They were soon signed to the acclaimed FFRR label and released several hits, such as “I Loved You” and “All Cried Out”, which led to a blaze of appearances at some of the UK’s biggest festivals and extensive airplay on the radio.

This momentum grew throughout 2015 culminating in a series of headlining gigs and DJ performances at many of the biggest venues and festivals in UK and Europe. Most recently they collaborated with Craig David on “Nothing Like This” and are putting the finishing touches of their highly anticipated debut album.

Hermitude are El Gusto and Luke Dubs, an award-winning duo based in Sydney. Over the course of 12 years they’ve released four albums, most recently the Australian Music Prize-winning album “HyperParadise”. Chef Daniel Patterson is originally from Newmarket, United Kingdom and joined the hotel from Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, Bangkok, Thailand where he was the Executive Chef. Prior to that, he was the executive chef in a number of five star hotels including Shangri-La and Hyatt.  

Chef Daniel has a bright and positive outlook on life, and the same can be found in his culinary creations. Chef William Wongso

William Wongso is recognized as one of Indonesia’s national treasure. He is a culinary expert who specializes in Indonesian food, a renowned restaurateur, and a host of a popular culinary show on Indonesian television channel.  

Since young, William Wongso undertook a variety of culinary education all around the world. He has been recognized by the world through his experience and knowledge in culinary. Hence, he received various awards such as chevalier dans l’ordre du merite agricole, an award given by the Ministry of Agriculture of France, in appreciation of his significant role and contribution towards French culinary and gastronomy. He is also recognized by the Indonesian government for his continuous efforts in promoting Indonesian culinary both nationally and internationally.

Currently, he is the Culinary Advisor for Garuda Indonesia airlines and a member of the board of advisor for Foodie magazine.

A Journey through Nusantara

This year at Raffles Jakarta, get ready to embark on a culinary journey of the archipelago during the month of Ramadan. Each week, Arts Café will bring you the very best flavours from a region of Indonesia. The journey begins with the tropical dishes from Bali and Lombok in the first week of Ramadan, and then moves north to the authentic flavours of Sulawesi and Kalimantan in the second week. After that, get ready to enjoy the tantalizing tastes of Sumatra, before landing in Java for the final chapter of the culinary heritage tour. The journey culminates into the Eid Al Fitri brunch, when all the regions come together one last time, to create an epic feast celebrating the completion of the holy month.  

Throughout this journey, Raffles Jakarta will present a unique collaboration with a select few of Indonesia’s most talented individuals. Chef William Wongso is a culinary expert who is famous for Indonesian cuisine. Together with Chef Daniel Patterson, our executive chef, they will combine their expertise in culinary to recreate the most authentic Indonesian flavours. Bicara tentang Bali seakan tidak ada habisnya. Alam, budaya dan makanan tradisionalnya sudah berabad-abad memanjakan turis dari seluruh penjuru dunia. Itu sebabnya, saya tidak pernah menyia-nyiakan kalau dapat kesempatan berkunjung ke Bali – selalu saja ada kegiatan yang menarik dan banyak sisi yang bisa dinikmati di Pulau Dewata ini.  

Menginap di Nusa Dua, tentu bukan pilihan yang salah, apalagi kalau menginapnya di Ayodya Resort Bali. Resor ini memang kategori kuno, tapi kemegahannya, dan terutama keramah-tamahan tuan rumahnya, masih terjaga dengan baik hingga kini.  

Ada empat tipe pilihan kamar jika menginap di Ayodya Resort Bali. Yakni, tipe deluxe, yang didekorasi indah dan menenangkan untuk memaksimalkan pengalaman menginap para tamu. Kedua, tipe grande, yang memberikan pengalaman menginap mewah dan disempurnakan dengan esensi dekorasi tradisional Bali. Sambil menunggu proses check in, saya bersantai sejenak di sebuah loungemewah, sambil menikmati secangkir cappuccino. Hmmm,  sungguh, sebuah awal yang mengesankan, awal yang menjanjikan sebuah pengalaman yang menyenangkan!

Ayodhya yang dalam bahasa Hindi merupakan sebuah kota kuno di India dan merupakan kota suci bagi umat Hindu. Disebut dalam Kitab Ramayana, Ayodhya merupakan ibukota dari kerajaan Kosala yang dilindungi oleh armada perang yang sangat kuat.

S.K.A.I Beach Club, Kemewahan Klub di Legian Bali

Menyaksikan Matahari terbenam akan terasa indah jika berada di tempat yang tepat. S.K.A.I Beach Club adalah salah satunya. Inilah venue terbaru yang dimiliki Padma Resort Legian. Klub yang terletak di tepi pantai Legian itu menyatu dengan alam sekitar, lengkap dengan taste Bali kekinian.

Jam operasionalnya adalah, mulai pukul 11.00 Wita sampai 01.00 Wita. Pengunjung dapat menikmati makan siang atau pun makan malam, atau pun sekadar minum bir, jus, soft drink, atau pun cocktail. Untuk kegiatan terakhir ini bisa memilih bar, atau yang lebih seru adalah di tepi kolam renang. Sambil nyebur ke air juga bukan ide yang buruk — karena kolam renang dirancang untuk itu, bukan?

Pada minggu kedua bulan Mei 2016, saya mendapat kesempatan menginap di Padma Resort Legian. So pasti, S.K.A.I. pantang dilewatkan. Venue yang dulu adalah Restaurant Bella Rosa Italian ini memang sangat menggoda, karena gambar-gambarnya sering berseliweran di media sosial.

Tidak berbeda dengan bayangan yang ada di benak, klub ini memang mempesona. Pemandangan yang indah, serta ada alunan musik Electro Dance Music (EDM) yang dimainkan oleh seorang DJ wanita. Saya dan seorang teman saya yang memang tinggal di Bali, Oky Hartanto, sore itu menikmati cocktail dan canape. Juga tidak lupa, kami memesan bir bersuhu 2 derajat yang terkenal itu. Thanks to Yohanes Hutauruk, Corporate Marketing & Communications Manager Padma Hotels, yang menyiapkan semua itu.

Bir memang lebih enak kalau dihidangkan dalam keadaan dingin, apalagi suhunya di bawah nol derajat. Pas dengan suasana hangat pantai beriklim tropis Bali. Dan, S.K.A.I tempat yang tepat untuk bersantai, sambil menikmati bir dingin, kendati  tempat ini juga cocok untuk makan siang atau makan malam.

S.K.A.I. konon merupakan singkatan dari “sunset, kocktail, al fresco and indulgence”. Tapi yeng jelas, menghabiskan waktu luang di S.K.A.I. merupakan sebuah kemewahan tersendiri. Inilah tempat yang tepat untuk memanjakan diri, menyaksikan Matahari terbenam, menikmati pemandangan laut lepas, debur ombak, dan kolam renang tanpa batas! (Burhan Abe)

PONSEL saya berdering. Di seberang sana suara Hanny Sitanggang, Corporate Marcom Coordinator Best Western Hotels & Resort, mengundang saya untuk berkunjung ke Bali, melihat dari dekat, dan tentu saja merasakan menginap di tiga propertinya, yakni Best Western Kuta Villa, Best Western Resort Kuta, dan Best Western Kuta Beach. Staycation yang bertajuk “Up Close and Personal with Best Western Hotel Bali Cluster” tiga hari dua malam ini berlangsung 30 Mei hingga 1 Juni 2016.
Undangan yang menarik tentunya. Apalagi, Bali yang identik dengan holidayitu merupakan “rumah kedua” bagi saya. So, meski dalam sebulan terakhir ini saya berkunjung dua kali ke Pulau Dewata ini, tetap saja ajakan ini menyenangkan.  
Ada dua orang lagi yang diajak Best Western kali ini, yakni Nita Sellya dan Amanda Anandita, yang berangkat dari Jakarta. Di tempat tujuan, akan bergabung sejumlah blogger yang tergabung dalam “Female Bloggers”, Kompasiana, dan videographer dari Kaskus, M. Syukron. Inilah kali pertama Best Western mengundang para blogger, di luar media mainstream, untuk memperkenalkan dari dekat propertinya. Ya, para general manager hotel tentu saja memanfaatkan acara ini sebagai ajang untuk memberikan informasi updatemengenai keunikan masing-masing hotel yang dimiliki.

Best Western Kuta Villa adalah hotel pertama tempat kami check in. Jujur saja, kalau dibandingkan dengan hotel-hotel dan resor-resor mewah lain di Bali, hotel ini tidak ada apa-apanya. Tapi untuk kelas bintang empat, hotel ini terasa istimewa, bukan bangunan standar, dengan vila-vila cantiknya.
Hotel ini mengangkat konsep vila dengan private plunge pool lengkap dengan nuansa Bali yang kental di setiap desain interior kamar maupun hotel. Best Western Kuta Villa mempunyai lokasi yang cukup strategis, dekat dengan Bandara Ngurah Rai International, serta dekat dengan pusat kuliner, art market dan shopping area, 24 jam.

Well, ini pengalaman yang menyenangkan. Hotel ini berlokasi di pusat kota – ada yang menyebutnya ring dua, kalau Pantai Kuta menjadi sentralnya, dekat dengan keramaian, tapi di sisi yang lain, kita bisa “bersembunyi” di hotel yang tenang. Cobalah private plunge pool, yang terletak di teras belakang di area terbuka, tanpa atap, langsung menghadap ke langit. Hmmm…

Surfing
Ke Bali kurang lengkap jika tidak surfing. Bahkan, banyak bule yang datang ke Bali, menempuh ribuan kilometer hanya untuk kegiatan yang satu ini. Surfing, atau bisa disebut juga selancar, merupakan sebuah olah raga air yang berlangsung di atas ombak yang tinggi. Olahraga ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan sebuah papan sebagai alat untuk bermanuver di atas ombak.

Pantai di Bali, termasuk Kuta, menjadi tujuan utama para peselancar dari seluruh dunia, lho. Tentu, sangat sayang kalau melewatkan berselancar ketika sedang di Bali. Memang sih, keterampilan berenang dan kesiapan secara fisik, menjadi pertimbangan untuk untuk mencoba olah raga yang satu ini. So, hanya Amanda dan Hanny, kali ini yang berselancar di tengah ombak Pantai Kuta. Syukron mengabadikan mereka. Ada pun saya, Nita, serta Andriana Hendrawati dan Marija Tjie dari pihak Best Western menikmati kehidupan pantai Kuta — termasuk bertato ria.

Hotel kedua yang kami coba adalah Best Western Kuta Beach, meski sedikit menjorok ke gang, tapi lokasinya hanya beberpa jengkal ke Pantai Kuta. Itu sebabnya, hotel ini menjadi favorit para pelancong, baik asing dan lokal, yang suka hotel tipe city inn. Bahkan, hotel ini disebut-sebut mempunyai mempunyai tingkat hunian tertinggi, bukan hanya di Bali, tapi juga di antara Best Western seluruh Indonesia.
