“Proses charcoal mellowing itu juga untuk smoothness dan Jack Daniel selalu menggunakan barel baru untuk proses pematangan wiski. Barel tersebut pun diproduksi sendiri,” tambah Irene Inonu, Marketing Manager Brown-Forman, perusahaan asal Amerika yang bergerak di bidang spirits dan wine, salah satunya JD, pada perayaan 164 tahun Jack Daniel’s di Exodus Club, pertengahan September 2014.  

Tidak seperti Scotch whiskey, JD tidak mencantumkan usia di botol kemasannya. Mengapa? “Sebab, umur tidak menandakan mature, dan tingkat kedewasaan Jack Daniel’s didapat dari barel, karena kami selalu menggunakan barel baru. Maka Jack Daniel’s tidak pernah mencantumkan tahun di botol kemasan. Karena kami percaya, wiski Jack Daniel’s akan matang, walaupun berada di dalam barel,” ucap Vincent Pantow, General Manager Brown-Forman.

Tapi sekali-kali boleh dong berbangga hati, karena MALE berhasil menjadi salah satu trendsetter majalah digital interaktif di Indonesia, yang bisa dilihat dari jumlah download-nya yang sudah menembus angka 33 juta dalam kurun waktu kurang dari dua tahun — dengan rata-rata download sekitar 350.000 per edisi per minggu.  


MALE merupakan majalah gaya hidup dan hiburan pria, dengan format digital, yang bisa dinikmati melalui platform iPad, ponsel atau tablet yang berbasis Android, dan PC dalam bentuk PDF, yang bisa diunduh secara gratis.  

Berbeda dengan kebanyakan majalah digital di Indonesia pada umumnya, yang hanya bentuk lain dari edisi cetaknya. MALE sejak published pertama kali 2 November 2012, memang dirancang sebagai interactive digital magazine – format baru yang tidak hanya memberikan pengalaman interaktif kepada pembacanya, tapi juga memberikan kesempatan pengiklan untuk menampilkan iklan-iklan kreatif yang tidak mungkin diberikan oleh majalah konservatif (cetak) bahkan online sekalipun.  

Majalah digital interaktif memang barang baru di Indonesia. Bahkan ada yang berpendapat, pasar majalah dengan format ini di Indonesia belum matang, tapi menurut kami ini hanya persoalan waktu, apalagi dengan makin membaiknya kualitas koneksi Internet di Indonesia.  

Teknologi terus berkembang, bahkan tidak mempedulikan apakah masyarakat sudah siap atau belum menerimanya. Kita menyaksikan maraknya pasar perangkat digital, khususnya PC tablet dan phablet, beberapa tahun belakangan ini. Pada saat yang bersamaan kabar dari media cetak tidaklah menggembirakan. Mereka tidak hanya sulit menaikkan tiras, tapi juga susah menaikkan pendapatan iklan.  

Josh Gordon, ahli periklanan di bidang online, meramalkan bahwa majalah digital makin mendapat tempat tersendiri, bahkan kelak bisa mengalahkan online yang konvensional. “Digital magazines can win and keep advertisers by creating interactive experiences for readers, not just delivering impressions and clicks,” jelasnya. Persembahan Ananda untuk Perempuan Indonesia

Bertempat di Pool Verandah Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta, Senin, 15 September 2014 pukul 10.00-12.00 WIB telah diselenggarakan jumpa pers Persembahan Ananda untuk Perempuan Indonesia yang dihadiri oleh Hotel Manager Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta Bapak Ersev Demiroz, Ketua Komnas Perempuan Ibu Yuniyanti Chuzaifah dan sang maestro Ananda Sukarlan.  

Saat ini maestro musik klasik Indonesia Ananda Sukarlan sedang mengerjakan sebuah opera baru, CLARA, yang terinspirasi dari cerpen berjudul sama karya Seno Gumira Ajidarma. Karya ini menggambarkan salah satu penggalan kisah saat kerusuhan Mei ‘98.

Opera ini dipagelarkan pada bulan Desember mendatang, atas kerjasama Yayasan Musik dan Sastra Indonesia, Komisi Nasional Anti Kekerasan terhadap Perempuan (Komnas Perempuan), Indonesia untuk Kemanusiaan (IKa/Indonesia for Humanity) dan didukung oleh Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta serta Berita Satu sebagai official media partner.

Beberapa cuplikan lagu dari opera tersebut serta karya lainnya akan diperdengarkan di acara resital piano, “Persembahan Ananda untuk Perempuan Indonesia” yang bertujuan untuk penggalangan dana bagi organisasi pengada layanan untuk korban kekerasan melalui Pundi Perempuan  Resital ini akan diselenggarakan di Hotel Four Seasons, pada 25 September 2014 mulai pukul 18.00-20.00 WIB.

Ananda akan ditemani oleh para vokalis klasik terbaik Indonesia saat ini, Evelyn Merrelita (soprano), Nikodemus Lukas Hariono (tenor) serta menghadirkan special guest: Wisnton Kurnia dari Indonesia’s Got Talent. Tiket resital dapat diperoleh dengan harga Rp. 500.000 per orang.   

Cerpen “Clara” memberikan kontribusi penting pada peran fiksi pendek Indonesia dalam mendukung pemulihan korban. Cerpen “Clara” mampu menunjukkan bagaimana korban ditolak dan dibungkam oleh aparat hukum negara. Di dalam banyak peradaban, meskipun diakui pemerkosaan adalah perbuatan kriminal, namun ironisnya seringkali korban justru disalahkan. Jika seluruh sejarah peradaban manusia belum menemukan solusi untuk itu, apa yang bisa kita lakukan bersama-sama untuk menguatkan korban?

Salah satunya adalah dengan membuka kesadaran bahwa perkosaan bukanlah sebuah tindakan yang hanya berlangsung selama beberapa menit. Bagi pemerkosa, mungkin iya. Tapi untuk korban, itu adalah hal yang akan mempengaruhi seluruh kehidupannya. Dalam konteks kekinian, sikap menyalahkan korban masih terus terjadi.

Hal ini bisa dengan mudah kita lihat dari respon berbagai pihak yang seharusnya memberikan perlindungan dalam berbagai kasus kekerasan seksual terhadap perempuan. Data yang dikumpulkan oleh Komnas Perempuan menunjukkan bahwa, angka kekerasan seksual cenderung meningkat.

Komnas Perempuan mencatat dalam kurun waktu 1998-2011 kasus kekerasan seksual berjumlah hampir seperempat dari seluruh total kasus kekerasan, atau 93.960 kasus dari seluruh kasus kekerasan terhadap perempuan yang dilaporkan (400.939).

Data terkini pada tahun 2012, bahkan menunjukan sedikitnya 35 perempuan menjadi korban kekerasan seksual setiap harinya dengan jumlah korban yang melapor 4.336 orang. Ironisnya lagi, hal ini tidak hanya terjadi pada perempuan dewasa tetapi juga pada kalangan anak-anak, baik perempuan maupun laki-laki.

Bahkan tahun 2013 dinyatakan sebagai tahun darurat kekerasan seksual terhadap anak, dari 2637 laporan kasus kekerasan terhadap anak yang diterima oleh Komisi Nasional Perlindungan Anak, 62% di antaranya adalah kekerasan seksual.

Themed “Sip, Savor and Shop,” the weekly brunch event is Kuta’s only market brunch featuring a great spread prepared by the resort’s culinary team at Feast. The resort’s restaurant revolutionized Bali brunches a year ago by including market shopping at the brunch, which now includes free groceries for guests! At the anniversary celebration, Chef Marinka presented two dishes she created exclusively for Feast’s Sunday Market Brunch.  

“I was thrilled to be part of this special anniversary commemorating Feast’s refreshed take on a traditional Bali brunch with an indoor market showcasing delicious serves from local farmers, artisans and vendors,” explained Chef Marinka. “It is truly a delight to create dishes for such an appreciative crowd, and I am excited that guests of the Sunday Market Brunch – which is unlike any other brunch experience in Bali – will be able to continue enjoying my exclusive dishes on the menu.”  

The two original dishes Chef Marinka created for Sunday Market Brunch are Walnut Crusted Beef, a thick cut of tenderloin steak coated with a Dijon mustard and toasted walnut mixture and served with a creamy onion, garlic and shallots sauce, and Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Mousse and Fruits, a sumptuous chocolate dessert featuring seasonal fruits. Guests can experience the dishes as prepared by the culinary team at Feast or take home printed recipes to make the dishes in their own kitchens. Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort also offers a recipe package with all the ingredients ready to go, providing guests a convenient way to try Chef Marinka’s dishes at home.

The Fresh Taste of New Zealand @ The Dharmawangsa Jakarta

Premium-quality New Zealand food and drinks will be the star at The Dharmawangsa Jakarta this week, September 2014. Guests will have the opportunity to savor outstanding dishes using the finest ingredients from New Zealand, accompanied with internationally-awarded New Zealand wines.

Jamie Hogg-Wharekawa, a New Zealand executive chef at the five-star Double-Six hotel in Bali, will collaborate with Executive Chef of The Dharmawangsa Jakarta, Vindex Tengker,  to develop an outstanding feature menu which includes high quality New Zealand selected ingredients from leading producers of beef and lamb such as Silver Fern Farms, Alliance; dairy products by Fonterra and Tatua; New Zealand Honey from Manuka Health and Airborne Honey; as well as ZESPRI kiwifruit, pastry by Quality Foods Southland, Whittaker’s Chocolate, and many others. Some selected wines include Kim Crawford, Matua Valley, Astrolabe, Ohau Wines and Felton Road.  

Included in the promotion is a meat workshop by New Zealand butcher, Kevin Boyle, to train chefs and F&B professionals on the special characteristics of New Zealand beef and lamb. A cooking demonstration will be performed by Jamie with H.E David Taylor, the New Zealand Ambassador to Indonesia.  

In addition, Emilia E. Achmadi MS., RD, a well-known Clinical Dietician and Nutritionist with more than 20 years’ experience, will host a talk show on “A Healthy Lifestyle with New Zealand Beef & Lamb”. Pastahouse AWkitchen adalah sebuah restoran yang sudah memiliki perjalanan panjang di Jepang. Restoran ini dimiliki oleh celebrity chef Akira Watanabe, pertama berdiri Maret 2004 di Nakameguro, Tokyo.  

AW adalah singkatan dari nama Akira Watanabe. Akira sengaja memberi nama restorannya Pastahouse sebab dia memang menonjolkan homemade pasta yang diandalkannya dan beragam sayuran segar. Menu cold pasta yang merupakan hasil karya Akira sudah diakui kelezatannya.

Akira berhasil memadukan antara authentic Italian cuisine dengan Japanese ingredient. Berbekal pengetahuan dan pengalamannya. Itulah kunci kesuksesan Pastahouse AWkitchen yang hingga kini berkembang menjadi 8 restoran di Jepang. Tak hanya di Tokyo, tapi juga di Chiba dan Yokohama, Jepang.

Setelah 10 tahun, hanya hadir di Jepang, sejak Maret 2014 AWkitchen sudah hadir di Plaza Senayan, Jakarta. “Setelah kami mengunjungi Awkitchen di Tokyo, kami memutuskan membukanya di Indonesia,” kata Lowrenz Tanuwidjaja, Direktur Operasional Pastahouse Awkitchen. ”Ini adalah pertama kalinya Awktchen dibuka di luar Jepang, dan itu adalah di Jakarta, Indonesia.”

Untuk menjaga cita rasanya dua chef didatangkan langsung dari Jepang, yaitu Tanaka Hidekazu (executive chef) dan Hiroshi Sano (sous chef). Tak hanya mendatangkan dua chef berpengalaman agar kualitas masakan yang disajikan sempurna, tapi bahan-bahan yang digunakan juga diperhatikan. Sekitar 70% bahan yang digunakan adalah bahan impor. Bahan yang sangat khas Jepang antara lain sea urchin dan yellow tail.  

Sisi lain yang menarik dari Pastahouse AWkitchen adalah pengunjung bisa melihat langsung aksi kedua chef saat menyiapkan pesanan para tamu, karena konsep open kitchen yang diterapkan. Dapurnya dilengkapi dengan tungku berukuran cukup besar untuk membakar pizza.

Chef Lamberto Valdez Lara, Keraton at The Plaza’s Director of Culinary, in collaboration with Patron, the most ultra-premium Tequila brand in the world, has created a tantalizing menu, pairing tequila shots and cocktails with some of his most popular tacos.
